about

Ana Baumgart and Ina Schoof grapple with culture and tradition in their collaborative work. In their series „I guess you don’t know me“ they approach unknown places, unfamiliar persons and their traditions. The video art was created in Spain, Italy, Morocco, Turkey and Japan. The contact Baumgart and Schoof seek and make with other people, becomes the subject of their work and in-between spaces are created: a hive of perception, experience and memory. The slow black-and-white works moves between meticulous staging and permitted ephemerality. Their recent works shift the focus to the dimensions of national belonging. Using the contemporary medium of video, they question the current state of society whilst remaining in abstraction, encouraging the beholder to turn their gaze upon themselves.

Ana Baumgart (born 1986) and Ina Schoof (born 1982) have been working together on conceptual video projects since 2009. Their works have been exhibited in Berlin, Frankfurt, Casablanca, Kanazawa and Venice. After completing their Bachelor of Photography at the University of Applies Sciences of Bielefeld, they studied together under Korpys/Löffler at the University of the Arts in Bremen and graduated as a Master’s student under Jean-Francois Guiton in 2017.
